Albert J. Fenoy, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon with expertise in deep brain stimulation for movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, tremor and dystonia, and psychiatric diseases such as obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression. He also specializes in neuromodulation procedures for chronic pain, as well as surgery for neck and back degenerative disease, including minimally invasive techniques.

Dr. Fenoy received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his medical degree at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Iowa and went on to complete a fellowship in functional neurosurgery at the Centre HospitalierUniversitaire de Grenoble, France, in December 2008..

Dr. Fenoy is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons. Also holding a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Dr. Fenoy has been critical in developing at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth an FDA-approved clinical trial on the use of deep brain stimulation in treatment-resistant depression. The UTHealth Neuroscience deep brain stimulation program is indeed robust: Dr. Fenoy has performed over 600 deep brain stimulation procedures since joining in 2009.Dr. Fenoy has presented research at several national and international conferences that has subsequently been published in Movement Disorders, Journal of Neurosurgery, Brain Research, Neuromodulation, Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, and Translational Psychiatry. His research has focused on the use of diffusion tensor imaging and optimization strategies for targeting in deep brain stimulation, on the electrophysiology of the basal ganglia and response to neuromodulation, and on biomarkers of response to neuromodulation therapy in treatment-resistant depression. .

He leads the chronic pain / spasticity sector of the Department of Stereotactic & Functional Neurosurgery in the University Hospital of Cologne. He has been trained in Greece (General University Hospital of Alexandroupolis, G. Papanikolaou General Hospital of Thessaloniki & 417 Army Equity Fund Hospital of Athens), USA (Department of Neurosurgery, Weill Cornell Medical College, New York, NY), Switzerland (Department of Neuroradiology, University Hospital of Zurich, Zurich) and Germany (Department of Stereotactic & Functional Neurosurgery, University Hospital Cologne, Cologne).

Dr. Matis is a member of two medical associations (Thessaloniki, Greece & North Rhine, Germany) and also a member of the German Neuromodulation Society (DGNM) and the International Neuromodulation Society (INS).

He serves as reviewer for many international journals and is Editorial Board member for Neuromodulation: Technology at the Neural Interface and Interventional Pain Medicine and Neuromodulation. He holds the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Internet Journal of Neurosurgery.

Dr. Matis has published many articles in Greek and international Pubmed-indexed journals and hold many lectures as invited speaker in numerous international congresses and webinars. At the same time, he is Public Education Committee member of the International Neuromodulation Society.

Dr. Yildiz, She is Professor of Neurology and Movement Disorders specialist in the Neurology Department of Istanbul Medipol University Medical Faculty, Turkey. She runs the Neurology Unit of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Centre in Istanbul Medipol University. Her main areas of interest are Movement Disorders and Dementia. Her main research areas are device-aided therapies in movement disorders including infusion therapies and Deep Brain Stimulation.

Dr. Yildiz is the scientific panel member of Turkish Parkinson’ s Disease Society and Turkish Alzheimer’ s Disease Society. She serves as a task force member of Movement Disorders and Dementia in the Turkish Neurological Society.

Dr. Yildiz has completed her movement disorders clinical trainings and fellowships under the supervision of Prof. Kailash Bhatia in Queen Square, Sobell Department of Motor Neuroscience and Movement Disorders, UCL Institute of Neurology, London, UK.

Focusing on deep brain stimulation, she was a visiting Professor in the Functional Neurosurgery/Deep Brain Stimulation Unit of Umea University, University Hospital of Northern Sweden under the supervision of Prof. Patrick Blomstedt, and Prof. Marwan Hariz working on direct-indirect targeting and planning for DBS, experiencing surgical procedures including Parkinson’ s disease, various types of tremor, dystonia , and postoperative DBS programming with various devices including Abbott, Medtronic and Boston Scientific systems

Dr. Yildizis a translation committee member and a member of special interest working groups of Movement Disorders Society (MDS) including “Neurosurgery Special Interest Group” and “Women in Movement Disorders”. Currently, she serves as an associate editor in the e-Learning platform of European Academy of Neurology (EAN), and scientific panel member of Dementia and cognitive disorders and Movement disorders Scientific Panels of EAN.
